Multiple road closures in effect due to Lowell impacts resulting in debris on road and high surf

Road into Lahaina from Kahakuloa:

• (Update: 7:54 a.m., 9.9.26) Kahekili Hwy from Waiheʻe School to Lahaina is now OPEN.
  • (Previous post: 9:39 a.m, 9.8.26) Road into Lahiana from Kahakuloa is closed and is only available for local traffic.

Front Street:

• (Update: 6:52 p.m., 9.8.26) Front Street is now OPEN
  • (Previous post: 2:56 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026) Front Street is closed from Kapunakea Street north bound to Honoapiʻilani Highway in both directions.

South Kīhei Road

• (Update: 6:49 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026) South Kihei Road is now OPEN, between Alahele Rd. and Kanani Rd.
  • (Previous post: 2:53 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026) South Kīhei Road is now closed between Alahele Place and Kanani Road.
• (Update: 2:42 p.m., Sept. 9, 2026): South Kihei Road is now OPEN between Uwapo and Ohukai.
  • (Previous post: 2:03 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026) South Kīhei Road is closed between Uwapo Road and Ohukai Road
• (Update: 1:55 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026) South Kīhei Road is closed between Kaonoulu Road and Ohukai Road.
• (Update: 12:48 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026) South Kīhei Road is closed between Auhana Road and Kanani Road.
• (Update: 12:36 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026) South Kīhei Road is closed between North Kihei Road and Ohukai Road due to debris from high surf.
• (Update: 12:34 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026) Maui police have also closed South Kīhei Road between North Kīhei Road and Leilani Road due to debris from high surf.

North Kīhei Road

• (Update: 1:24 p.m., 9.8.26) North Kīhei Road between Honoapiʻilani Highway and South Kīhei Road. is now OPEN in both directions.

Honoapiʻilani Highway

• WEST MAUI: (Update: 8:57 a.m., 9.8.26) Both lanes are now open on Honoapiʻilani Highway between Lone Pine and Māʻalaea. Continue to drive with caution. A lane shift is in effect at MM 12.5
  • (Previous post: 8:32 a.m., 9.8.26) Honoapiʻilani Highway between lone pine MM 12 to Māʻalaea is open in the Kahului-bound direction.
  • (Previous post: 12 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026) Maui police implemented a partial closure of the Honoapiʻilani Highway about a half hour before midnight due to lots of debris on the road between Māʻalaea and Ukumehame. The closure extends from Kapoli Street in Māʻalaea to Ehehene Street in Ukumehame. The closure is impacting northbound traffic in the Lahaina direction.
  • (Previous post: 10:37 p.m., Monday, Sept. 7, 2026): Rocks and debris on the road between MM 11 and 13 on Honoapiilani Highway in the vicinity of Papalaua Beach Park and Ukumehame. A crew is en route.
