Partial closure of Honoapiʻilani due to debris on road; Part of South Kīhei Road impacted by high surf

(Update: 12 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026) Maui police implemented a partial closure of the Honoapiʻilani Highway about a half hour before midnight due to lots of debris on the road between Māʻalaea and Ukumehame. The closure extends from Kapoli Street in Māʻalaea to Ehehene Street in Ukumehame. The closure is impacting northbound traffic in the Lahaina direction.

(Update: 12:34 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026) Maui police have also closed South Kīhei Road between North Kīhei Road and Leilani Road due to debris from high surf.

(Update: 12:36 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026) South Kīhei Road is closed between North Kihei Road and Ohukai Road due to debris from high surf.

(Update: 12:48 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026) South Kīhei Road is closed between Auhana Road and Kanani Road.
