74-year-old man found deceased at Nōmilu Fishpond on Kauaʻi following Hurricane Lowell
The body of a 74-year-old Kalāheo man was found along the ocean shoreline fronting the Nōmilu Fishpond on Kauaʻi, Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 9, 2026.
Officials believe the death was related to the storm surge from Hurricane Lowell.
First responders were dispatched to the area on Tuesday morning after receiving reports of a missing person. The search included personnel from the Kauaʻi Police Department, Kauaʻi Fire Department, and Department of Land and Natural Resources.
An autopsy is pending to confirm the exact cause of death, but officials say foul play is not suspected. The investigation is ongoing.
The Kauaʻi Police Department extended its condolences to the victimʻs family and loved ones.
