Two Maui men were injured when the 20-foot sport fishing boat they were on struck a submerged object off Molokini Crater early Tuesday morning. The incident was reported at 5:13 a.m. on Sept. 15, 2026.

One man, believed to be in his 50s, suffered injuries to his leg; and the other man, believed to be in his 70s, suffered injuries to his torso.

Firefighters aboard Rescue Boat 10 arrived on scene to find one man still on the boat, and one man on the eastern tip of Molokini islet.

Firefighters were able to determine that the victim’s boat was still operable, and crews transferred him to Rescue Boat 10. The second boater was retrieved from Molokini by firefighters and placed aboard Rescue Boat 10.

Both men received medical care on the way to Kīhei Boat Ramp and were transferred to Emergency Medical Services personnel for transport to Maui Memorial Medical Center.

Responding units included Ladder 14, and Rescue 10 personnel aboard Rescue Boat 10. Crews concluded response at 8:02 a.m.
