Hawaiʻi Island, Maui County UH campuses to close ahead of TS Nolo

The University of Hawaiʻi will close UH Hilo, Hawaiʻi Community College and all other UH units on Hawaiʻi Island on Thursday and Friday, while UH Maui College and other UH units in Maui County will close Friday, as Tropical Storm Nolo approaches the state and is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane. The closures include UH Mānoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience extension offices on Hawaiʻi Island and in Maui County.

Campus closures: 

• UH Hilo and Hawaiʻi CC, Thursday and Friday
• UH Maui College, Friday
• UH Mānoa CTAHR offices on those islands

Gov. Josh Green ordered state offices and public schools on Hawaiʻi Island and in Maui County to close on those days.

According to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center, Nolo strengthened south of Hawaiʻi Island and is moving west. The storm is expected to turn to the north and rapidly intensify into a hurricane within the next 24 hours and could become a major hurricane by the weekend.

UH leaders continue to closely monitor the storm and work with state, county and federal emergency officials.
