Lahaina Energy Partnership set to host presentations

The Lahaina Energy Partnership will host two virtual community presentations in October to share the results of technical assistance provided by the US Department of Energy’s National Laboratory of the Rockies in support of Lahaina’s long-term energy planning and recovery.

The presentations will provide community members and stakeholders an opportunity to hear directly from National Laboratory of the Rockies technical leads, learn about the findings developed through the technical assistance process, ask questions and hear about next steps for the Lahaina Energy Partnership.

“This is an exciting point we have reached with the Lahaina Energy Partnership,” said Alex de Roode of Hā Sustainability. “The results of the technical assistance that will be shared have been informed by the tremendous dedication of Lahaina community members and stakeholder partners who have provided their manaʻo and guidance throughout this process. The results provide a strong foundation for the implementation planning phase of the LEP.”

The virtual presentations will take place:

Oct. 6, 5:30–7:30 p.m.
Topics will include the resource potential of various energy generation technologies, as well as building energy design strategies.

Oct. 20, 5:30–7:30 p.m.
Topics will include microgrids and electric grid hardening.

The Lahaina Energy Partnership is a community-led collaboration among Lahaina Strong, Hā Sustainability, Shake Energy Collaborative and the National Laboratory of the Rockies. The partnership is intended to help ensure that Lahaina’s energy planning and recovery efforts reflect community priorities, values and a shared vision for the community’s energy future.

The technical assistance builds on community engagement and co-design activities conducted throughout the partnership, during which community priorities and questions helped inform the areas of technical analysis. The October presentations will bring the results of that work back to the community as this phase of technical assistance concludes and the partnership moves into implementation planning.

“Community priorities have helped guide this work from the beginning, and these presentations are an opportunity for people to hear what the technical analysis found and ask questions directly of the technical team,” said Jordan Ruidas of Lahaina Strong. “As we move toward implementation planning, it’s important that the community continues to be part of the conversation about what comes next.”

Each presentation will include a welcome, technical results presentations, time for questions and discussion and an overview of next steps.
