From Hawaiʻi to New York: Ultra-marathoner launches 50-state world record attempt

British ultra-marathoner, William Goodge, has announced his latest endurance feat: running 50 marathons, across all 50 US states, in 24 days. Titled Mission America, in partnership with Goodwin, Goodge will run a full marathon length of 26.2 miles within each of the state lines. Should he succeed, Goodge will hold the Guinness World Record title for this effort.
Goodge will run in honor of his mother, Amanda “Mandy” Goodge, who passed away from cancer. Her passing inspired Goodge to embrace his mantra of “Pain with Purpose” which he brings to all his physical efforts. “Pain with Purpose” allows Goodge to view extreme pain not as a stop sign, but as a space to find clarity. Along the way, Goodge will raise money for cancer research through a GoFundMe fundraising challenge benefitting Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C).
Starting in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi on Friday, Oct. 9 and finishing at the iconic New York City Marathon on Sunday, Nov. 1, Goodge will push his physical and mental limits in a demonstration of technique, planning, precision, and adaptation that is difficult to comprehend for those who have never run a marathon, let alone link 50 of them in less than a one month timespan. Along the way, Goodge will run through handpicked cities, ranging from iconic US landmarks to State Capitals to college towns to rural areas.

“I’ve run all over the world, doing incredible things, but the opportunity to run in every US state will be the pinnacle,” said William Goodge. “The varying landscapes, tackling all forms of weather and topography, inviting anyone willing to join for the first 5k… it’s going to be a rollercoaster. It’s a true honor to raise vital funds, share miles and hopefully inspire many. Thank you to Goodwin for the support and helping to make this happen.”
Goodge’s partner for this effort is Goodwin. “If it wasn’t for their world class back-end systems and incredible expertise, making this happen in 24 days would have been an insurmountable task,” he said. Founded in 2022, Goodwin Company is revolutionizing the charter industry with innovative technology that streamlines charter operations. Goodwin acts solely in a B2B capacity, supporting brokers and operators in digitizing and elevating their workflows, ensuring charter aviation professionals can focus on building meaningful client relationships and scaling their businesses.
“Partnering with William Goodge was no-brainer, as we see a lot of similarities in work ethic trying to beat world records and that of people growing their footprint,” according to Team Goodwin. “William Goodge dares to think big and put it all on the line and that’s exactly what we at Goodwin do when it comes to building technology. Goodwin enables the brokers in charter aviation to go fast, to go further, to accomplish things above and beyond the norm. It isn’t just AI and technology that makes Goodwin special. It’s the speed at which it brings software to an industry full of great people looking for ways to go quicker. Enabling the success of this world record attempt, to go the distance in record time, it requires a team on the backend to help execute on several logistics and that’s exactly what Goodwin does. We couldn’t be prouder to be part of this incredible push.”
Goodge, who believes in transparency, will rigorously monitor his mileage and physical parameters, via Strava, two fitness watches and a GPS live tracker that’s data is also stored. He will also record and provide timestamped GPS evidence in .KML format for each run, as well as photographic and video evidence of the start, finish and other points during each run in every state. Data will be shared and published in full post completion of the challenge. Track here.
Goodge has added SU2C as his charitable partner for this feat. SU2C’s mission is to raise awareness and fund research to detect and treat cancers with the aspiration to cure all patients. Goodge chose SU2C due to their proven track record of funding research that has led to dramatic improvements in the treatment of multiple cancers and helped many people live longer lives.
“William’s commitment to ultra-endurance and raising money to support people with cancer and cancer research is nothing short of remarkable,” said SU2C President and CEO Julian Adams, PhD. “We’re thrilled that he’s using his abilities, dedication, and influence to support SU2C and allow us to fund more breakthrough cancer research.”
GoFundMe’s fundraising technology is powering Goodwin Generated: Mission America fundraising experience, enabling anyone who wants to join to create their own fundraisers in support of SU2C. Learn more about SU2C here and GoFundMe here.
“By channeling grief and that heavy energy into extreme physical challenges, I can rise above, rather than wallow within,” said Goodge. “So many people take on challenges due to grief, and I am excited to fundraise for SU2C, and cheer alongside others who are running challenges of their own. I’m proud that we have added so many ways to participate which allows us to be as inclusive as possible. Nearly everyone has been impacted by cancer in some way, and we hope someday that changes.”
Goodwin Generated: Mission America follows Goodge’s previous challenge, a push across the length of Australia, which he completed on May 19, 2025. Goodge ran from Cottesloe Beach, Perth, WA, Australia to Bondi Beach, Sydney, NSW Australia, totaling 2,361 miles in 34 days, averaging about 70 miles a day. He was awarded the Fastest Known Time by Keelan Birch, the FKT Editor for Australia, on Aug. 15, 2026.
