Hawaiʻi Island Storm Assessment (8.17.26) PC: Office of Gov. Josh Green.

On behalf of Gov. Josh Green, the Hawaiʻi Department of Human Services will host a community meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Nāʻālehu Public Library to cover plans for interim disaster housing for residents displaced by Hurricane Lala.

The project will provide 12 two-bedroom, one-bath homes on a site next to the library. The units will offer safe, temporary housing for displaced residents as they work toward securing long-term housing options. After the disaster recovery period, the homes will be used as interim workforce housing for educators and clinicians.

The meeting will give community members an opportunity to learn about the project, ask questions and provide input.

Community members who cannot attend may email questions to input@communityvoice.net. Public comments will be accepted through Oct. 20, 2026.
