Hiker injured in fall on East Maui’s Pīpīwai Trail

A 69-year-old male visitor was injured in a fall while hiking the Pīpīwai Trail in East Maui on Tuesday afternoon. The man suffered abrasions to his extremities and a hip injury during a fall.

First responders received the call around 3:46 p.m. on Oct. 6, 2026. Firefighters located the man in heavy foliage on foot after an aerial search was unsuccessful. Rescuers evaluated his injuries and walked him to the trailhead, where Emergency Medical Services personnel provided further care.

Responding units included Engine 7, Rescue 10 aboard Air 1, and EMS. The response concluded at 5:30 p.m.
