The County of Maui Department of Liquor Control Licensing and Permits Division is encouraging licensees to apply for new umbrella permits that cover live entertainment, dancing and portable bars.

Permits will be processed onsite during an open application event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 12 and 13, 2026, in Kahului. Applicants who are unable to attend may contact the Licensing and Permits Division at 808-243-7063 to schedule an individual appointment.

Open application event

  • Who: Licensees or their Authorized Agents on record for qualified Dispenser, Restaurant, Tour or Cruise Vessel, Small Craft Producer Pub, Club and Hotel licenses
  • Dates: Oct. 12 and 13, 2026
  • Time: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; walk-ins only (no appointment necessary)
  • Location: 110 ‘Alaʻihi St., Room 212A, Kahului Benefit: Simple, on-site processing. Approved permits will be provided before departure.

What is an umbrella permit?

Unlike traditional permits that restrict music and entertainment, dancing or portable bars to designated areas, the umbrella permit provides flexibility by allowing permit holders to conduct these activities in other areas on licensed premises, provided permit conditions are met.

Who should apply?

Any licensee with existing, area-specific permits should upgrade to an umbrella permit. Holding an umbrella permit means licensees will no longer need to request special event permits for activities that are taking place on their licensed premises. Staff will be on hand to help rescind existing location-specific permits and transition to the new umbrella permit.
