Used pacemakers for dogs: Presentation at Kīhei-Wailea Rotary, Oct. 14

The past and current President of the Valley Isle Kennel Club of Maui will be the speaker at the upcoming Rotary Club of Kīhei-Wailea meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026.  The presentation by Susie Saunders is titled, “Moka Needs a Pacemaker.”

Saunders is raising awareness that previously used human pacemakers can save the life of a dog with heart conditions.

Special guest will be Moka, a 2-year-old 75-pound Catahoula Leopard/Black Lab mix with a rare heart condition known as congenial cardiomyopathy with atrial standstill. A pacemaker will save his life.

Susie has been breeding Golden retrievers since 1984 and Labrador Retrievers since 1998.

The meeting runs from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Kīhei Youth Center, located at 131 S. Kīhei Rd. A light lunch is available for $7. Networking opportunities occur after the meeting.
