Maui Movement Collective opens in Haʻikū, bringing movement, creativity and community together

A new space for movement, creativity, and connection has arrived in Upcountry Maui. Maui Movement Collective, a locally owned movement and aerial arts studio in Haʻikū, invites the community to celebrate its grand opening with a free, Halloween-inspired open house on Sunday, Oct. 25, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Located in the Haʻikū Marketplace, Maui Movement Collective offers a welcoming space where people of all ages and experience levels can explore movement, discover new interests, and connect with others.
Built around the philosophy “Explore. Create. Belong.” MMC brings together aerial arts, dance, fitness, and creative movement under one roof. Programming includes aerial silks, lyra, and trapeze; youth movement classes; adult dance and fitness offerings; and gentle movement experiences designed for older adults.
Co-founders Sarina Ponte and Sarah Brown bring years of shared experience in dance, performance, and producing creative community events. Their vision for Maui Movement Collective grew from a shared belief in the power of movement to inspire confidence, encourage self-expression, and bring people together.
“Movement has always been such a powerful form of self-expression for me,” said Ponte, a lifelong dancer and certified barre instructor. “We wanted to create a space where people of all ages and experience levels feel comfortable exploring something new, building confidence, and discovering the joy of movement in their own way.”
For Brown, who rediscovered her passion for movement and performance later in adulthood, creating a welcoming community is especially meaningful.
“My own journey taught me that it’s never too late to discover a new passion or surprise yourself with what you’re capable of,” said Brown. “Maui Movement Collective is about creating those opportunities for others — a place where people can step outside their comfort zones, express themselves, and feel a genuine sense of belonging.”
A Community Celebration
To introduce the studio to its Upcountry neighbors and the greater Maui community, MMC will host a free grand opening and open house on Sunday, Oct. 25.
The Halloween-inspired celebration will offer a relaxed, family-friendly opportunity to explore the new studio, meet the owners and instructors, and experience a little of what Maui Movement Collective has to offer.
Guests can enjoy a live aerial instructor demonstration, try introductory aerial skills with guidance, and get creative at a fall-inspired crafting station. Costumes are welcome, and visitors are encouraged to drop in, explore the space, and celebrate with the Collective.
