HTA workshop in Wailuku offers Maui businesses guidance on reaching visitors

A two-day workshop for Maui farmers, makers, small-business owners, cultural practitioners and nonprofits interested in working with the visitor industry will take place Oct. 30–31 at the J. Walter Cameron Center in Wailuku.
The session is part of the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority’s 2026 Foundational Technical Assistance workshops, which the authority is offering in partnership with Kilohana Collective, a division of Hawaiian Council. According to organizers, the workshops are open to people who are just starting out and to those looking to expand their work with visitors.
Organizers said the curriculum will cover how to:
- Reach visitors and understand what influences their decisions.
- Communicate why a product or experience is worth choosing.
- Develop offerings that reflect a community and its culture.
- Set prices that sustain the work.
The program includes industry panels, hands-on activities and networking with local businesses and visitor-industry professionals. Organizers said returning participants can expect new content, speakers and activities.
The Maui workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Registration costs $80 for both days or $45 for one day, plus tax, and includes breakfast and lunch. Participants may attend one or both days. Organizers said space is limited. Registration is available at regenerativetourismhawaii.info/foundational.
Organizers said travel scholarships may be available for attendees from Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi. Questions about scholarships can be sent to aloha@regenerativetourismhawaii.info.
The workshops will continue on other islands:
- Oʻahu: Nov. 13–14 at the East-West Center in Honolulu.
- Hawaiʻi Island: Nov. 20 at Laʻiʻōpua 2020 in Kailua-Kona and Nov. 21 at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo.
