A 37-year-old Kīhei man suffered fatal injuries in a motorcycle accident Friday night on Piʻilani Highway near the intersection of Kaonoulu Street. The incident was reported at 7:34 p.m. on Oct. 23, 2026.

Police say a preliminary investigation revealed that a White 2013 Ford Edge was traveling eastbound on Kaonoulu Street and executed a left turn northbound onto Piʻilani Highway when a red 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling southbound on Piʻilani Highway in the outer lane, collided into the Ford.

As a result of this collision, the motorcycle operator was ejected from the motorcycle and was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased upon arrival. The man’s identity is being withheld for 24 hours to allow his family an opportunity to notify their extended family and friends.

The operator of the Ford, an 18-year-old Kīhei man, was uninjured. He was placed under arrest for third degree negligent injury nd was subsequently released pending further investigation.

Police say the motorcycle operator was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

The involvement of speed, drugs, or alcohol has not yet been determined, as the investigation is ongoing.

This was Maui County’s 11th traffic fatality of 2026, compared to 14 at the same time last year.
