Traffic Advisory: Parts of Makawao Avenue to be closed on weekends this month for roadwork

The County of Maui Department of Public Works reconstruction project will require weekend closures of both lanes of portions of Makawao Avenue, starting this weekend, Nov. 7-8, 2026.

Road closures will occur only during working hours from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. No overnight closures of the roadway will occur. While the work is underway, businesses will operate as usual and remain accessible through one-lane access into and out of business parking lots. Customers are asked to follow detour and traffic control signs for access to businesses in the work zone.

Pedestrian access is closed throughout the work zone unless otherwise provided for by traffic control setup.

Weekend construction dates and areas include (subject to change):

• Saturday, Nov. 7: Miner Place to middle of Makawao Business Center driveway
• Sunday, Nov. 8: Middle of Makawao Business Center driveway to middle of Makawao post office driveway
• Nov. 14: Middle of Makawao post office driveway to middle of Minit Stop driveway
• Nov. 15: Middle of Minit Stop driveway to Ai Street (end of project)
• Nov 21: Final overlay from Maha Road to Ai Street
