The park’s Leleiwi Overlook lot will be closed from today, Aug. 12, 2013, through Wednesday night, Aug. 14, 2013; and the Kalahaku parking lot, the final phase of the project, will be closed from this week Thursday, Aug. 15 at 6:45 a.m., to Thursday, Aug. 29 at 6 p.m., according to an NPS announcement.

Park officials say the work is occurring during summer because asphalt must be applied during the warmest, driest time of year.

Motorists can expect heavy construction traffic and delays on Haleakalā Highway and Crater Road through Sept. 2, according to a NPS advisory.
