List of 6 Maui Judicial Nominees Released

The Hawaiʻi Judiciary today released a list of six nominees identified by the Judicial Selection Commission to be considered for the Maui vacancy created by the resignation of former district judge Mimi DesJardins.
The list of nominees includes: Brian A. Costa; Michelle L. Drewyer; Gregory J. Garneau; Kirstin M. Hamman; Georgia A. K. McMillen; and Lloyd A. Poelman.
Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald has 30 days from his receipt of the list today to make his appointment, the announcement said.
According to Judiciary statistics, there were a total of 11 applicants considered for the post, with years of experience ranging from 9.5 years to 25 years as a licensed attorney.
Four of the 11 were identified as government attorneys, while the remaining applicants were in private practice. Two of the 11 applicants were also identified as per diem judges.
The age range of applicants included six between the age of 51 and 60; 3 between 41 and 50; and 2 between 31 and 40.
The vacancy is in the judicial office of District Judge, for the District Court of the Second Circuit, which includes jurisdiction over Maui, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Kahoʻolawe and Molokini.
