County Restroom Rennovations Continue

The county continues restroom renovations at select parks and county facilities as part of a fall schedule announced earlier this month.

Work begins this week at the Haʻikū Ball Fields behind Haʻikū Park and Community Center off of the Hāna Highway.

Restrooms at the ball fields will be closed through Nov. 11. Renovation work includes new plumbing fixtures, paint and finishes to improve sanitation and disrepair of the frequently-used facility.

Crews also began work earlier this month at the Polo Beach Park bathrooms in in Wailea, off of Mākena Road. That project is slated to conclude on Nov. 4.

Crews completed work at Kamaliʻi Park in Kahului, off of Aʻiaʻi Street earlier this month, and will begin renovation work at Hoʻokipa Park in Kūʻau, off of Hāna Highway, between Nov. 18 to Dec. 6.

The repair work will result in the closure of restrooms at respective locations, with portable toilets provided for public use during the repairs.

Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa asked members of the community to be patient while the county works on improving the sanitation and disrepair of some of the more frequently-used restrooms.

“Our parks are well-loved by our community, as hundreds of people frequent them on a daily basis,” said Arakawa in a press release statement.

“Unfortunately, this also means a high volume of people using our restrooms has led to worn-down facilities and sanitation issues. This renovation effort will address some long-awaited upgrades to our park restrooms and hopefully improve the park experience for all of our residents and visitors,” he said.
