Kīhei Shooting Under Investigation as Assault

A male individual was transported in serious condition to the Maui Memorial Medical Center last night after sustaining a gunshot wound during an alleged assault in South Maui.

The incident was reported at 5:09 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, on the Old Mokulele Highway merge and South Kīhei Road in the kiawe brush area to the north of Suda Store.

When police arrived on scene, they found the victim, and confirmed that he did sustain a gunshot wound, but no weapon was found, said Maui Police Lt. William Juan.

Police say the victim was uncooperative with police, and that the incident is under investigation as a first degree assault.

Further details including the victim’s identity, age, and residence were not available at last report.
