An informational meeting will be held to discuss a community proposal that seeks the designation of Moʻomomi area of Molokaʻi as a Community-Based Subsistence Fishing Area.
The proposal reportedly consists of a management plan and proposed fishing rules to protect the island’s subsistence fisheries for future generations.
During the meeting, proponent Mac Poepoe will explain the proposal on behalf of the group Hui Mālama o Moʻomomi.
Officials with the state Department of Land and Natural Resources will host the meeting. The department notes that the proposal represents the combined efforts of Hui Mālama o Moʻomomi, ʻAha Kiole o Molokaʻi, and Pālāʻau Moku residents.
Public input will also be accepted, with the meeting set to take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, at the Mitchell Pauʻole Community Center in Kaunakakai.
