Haleakalā Summer Internship Application Deadline, March 14
By Maui Now Staff
Haleakalā National Park announced that it is recruiting high school students for its summer Pōhai Maile High School Internship Program.
To qualify for consideration, applicants must be Hawai‘i residents, be enrolled in grades 9-12, and be available full-time during the three-week program.
The deadline to apply is March 14, 2014.
Twelve students will be selected through a competitive process that includes a formal application and interview.
The program will run from June 9 to 27, 2014, and is free of charge to participants. Program hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, with free transportation provided from designated sites.
Interns are also eligible to receive a living allowance of $25 per day to help offset the cost of equipment and supplies they will need for the program.
During the program, interns will work alongside staff from Haleakalā National Park, focusing on natural resources management, visitor outreach and education, and facilities management.
Interns will also engage with federal, state, and non-profit conservation organizations to gain an island-wide conservation perspective and expand their professional network.
Neighbor island students are encouraged to apply, but must be able to provide their own housing on Maui.
Additional details and application packets may be obtained by contacting the park’s internship coordinator, Kūhea Asiu, at (808) 572-4452 or via email at [email protected].
