Molokaʻi Landfill Delays Opening Due to Staff Shortage
By Maui Now Staff
The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management today announced a delay in the opening of the Molokaʻi Landfill on the morning of Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, due to a staffing shortage.
The landfill will open at 9:30 a.m. instead of 8 a.m. on that day to allow for certified landfill personnel from Maui to cover the shortage, county officials said.
“This measure is being taken to ensure the safe operation of the landfill, and to meet minimum state Department of Health operating requirements mandated by the County’s solid waste permit,” according to a department issued press release.
Aside from the previously announced change, daily hours at the Molokaʻi Landfill are 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday. The landfill is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
