The Maui Family YMCA kicks off its annual Community Support Campaign with a luncheon on Friday, Feb. 28 at the Fitness Studio on Kanaloa Avenue in Kahului.
The event features keynote speaker Lieutenant Governor Shan Tsutsui, and a special address from Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa.
This year, the non-profit Maui Family YMCA has set the goal to raise $140,000.
Organization representatives say that funds raised will be used to help advance programming and services that support youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
According to information released by the organization, financial support last year went towards after school programs for more than 1,000 kids; helped 571 families reconnect and grow; and assisted 745 children with swim lessons.
“We are so excited that the lieutenant governor believes in the Y’s values of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility,” said Maui Family YMCA President and CEO Mike Morris in a press release.
“This year’s campaign is the most aggressive in our history and with the support of Lt. Gov. Tsutsui and the generosity of the Maui community, we hope to reach our goal,” he said.
The Maui Family YMCA offers after school to play and homework time to kids; exercise and group activities for seniors; and educational information for eating healthy for growing families.
