The National Weather Service has extended a flood advisory for the Island of Maui until 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2014.
Over the last 24 hours for the period ending at 8 a.m., the NWS recorded 1.73 inches of rain at Puʻu Kukui, 1.57 inches at Lahainaluna, 1 inch in Haʻikū, and 0.92 inches at the Hāna Airport.
At 9:30 this morning, NWS forecasters say radar showed persistent rain upslope along the Hāna coast from Kīpahulu to Huelo, with elevated water in windward streams.
The public is reminded to stay away from drainage ditches, streams, and low-lying areas that are prone to flooding. Motorists and pedestrians are advised not to cross fast flowing water in their vehicles or on foot.
