VIDEO: Kanikapila with Poki featuring Living legend Emma Veary

[flashvideo file=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbbpDCpfY3I /] Living legend Emma Veary was the featured artist at the latest Kanikapila with Poki event held today (Thursday June 10, 2010) beneath the shade of the Kou and Kukui Nut trees fronting the Baldwin House Museum in Lahaina.
The event is sponsored by the Lahaina Restoration Foundation and features live Hawaiian Music every second Thursday of the month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in historic Lahaina Town.
The much loved Emma Veary is recognized as a lifetime musician, beginning her performing career at the age of five doing youth shows, then advancing to Waikiki shows at the Monarch Room, Royal Hawaiian and Halekulani hotel. In 1994, she received the esteemed Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts.
Veary, who now lives on Maui full-time joined her daughter, and recent Na Hoku Hanohano award winner Robyn Kneubuhl of the Hula Honey’s at today’s event.
The Kanikapila with Poki event happens every second Thursday of the month and is sponsored by the County of Maui Office of Economic Development and the Hawaii Tourism Authority.
A separate event also hosted by Braddah Poki of Pacific Radio Group’s KPOA 93.5 FM is held in Wailuku on the third Thursday of each month in Central Maui beneath the Monkeypod Tree on the grounds of the historic Kaahumanu Church in Wailuku. Both events are free and open to the public! Bring a lawn chair, a mat, your mea ‘ai (lunch) and a friend!
