The long-awaited Market by Capische opened this week in Wailea.

Described as a “chef-inspired venture that promotes the creation of art through food and supports a philosophy to highlight quality wineries that complement the cuisine,” the shop is located below Merriman’s Monkeypod Kitchen in the Wailea Gateway Center.

The deli/coffee shop marketplace offers a variety of goods.

Alongside full barista service, patrons can anticipate sandwiches, paninis and salads made to order. There is also freshly baked bread, produce, meat, fish, and cheese available, as well as gourmet options such as dry aged ribeye steaks, house-cured salumis and handmade pastas.

If that’s not enough, The Market (and its patron restaurant, Capische?) have had private label wines crafted, cellared, and bottled by Testarossa Winery in Los Gatos, CA on their behalf.

Said wines are available by the glass at the restaurant and for purchase by the bottle at The Market.

On their Facebook page, chef and co-owner Brian Etheredge comments that “our wine label art was designed specifically for The Market and Capische? by Jim Powlan, a long time printmaker and resident of Maui. Jim’s work has been selected for juried shows in Hawaii, including Art Maui multiple times, as well as national print shows.”

The Market by Capische is located at 10 Wailea Gateway Place in Kihei.

As for hours, a spokesperson for the shop stated that “We just opened two days ago, but I’m pretty sure we’ll be here  from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day.”
