Governor Neil Abercrombie and former governor John Waiheʻe will headline a lūʻau fundraiser hosted by the Maui County Democratic Party at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the Pu’u Kukui Elementary School Dining Room in Wailuku, the organization announced today.

The lūʻau event will take place after the 3:30 p.m. Maui County Democratic Party Convention that is scheduled earlier in the afternoon in the multi-purpose classroom of the school.

During the lūʻau several leaders are scheduled to speak, highlighting Democratic accomplishments over the last 60 years. Speakers include Lieutenant Governor Shan Tsutsui, US Senator Brian Schatz and US Representative Colleen Hanabusa.

The Maui Democratic Party will also present awards to Shigeto “Mustard” Murayama, a posthumous award to B. Martin Luna, John Y. Arisumi, Stephanie Ohigashi, Beverly Pauole-Moore and Jim Crowe, who party leaders say have demonstrated leadership and made significant contributions to the party from 1954-2014.

A donation of $35 is being requested for the Hawaiian luau dinner which includes entertainment and a silent auction, the announcement said.
