House lawmakers meet on Maui to explain how the budget was balanced

Lawmakers will hold two informational briefings on Maui to discuss how the budget was balanced.  House of Representatives Finance Chair, Marcus Oshiro, will make a presentation to the Maui community, explaining how the house worked to resolve a $1.2 billion shortfall without raising the general excise tax, and without taking away the transient accommodations tax from the counties.  Information will also be provided on how the legislature reduced spending, established budget priorities, and identified capital improvement projects for Maui County. 

The meetings will be held: Monday, June 28 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Pukalani Elementary School Cafeteria (2945 Iolani Street in Pukalani) and on Tuesday, June 29 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Cameron Center in Wailuku (95 Mahalani Street).

House Finance Chair will be joined by House members Kyle Yamashita, Angus McKelvey, Mele Carroll, Gil Keith-Agaran, and Joe Souki of Maui.
