Birds Fly Into Electrical Equipment Resulting in Molokaʻi Outage

A power outage in the Kaunakakai area of Molokaʻi was caused when birds came into contact with electrical equipment, a spokesperson with Maui Electric Company said.

The outage was first reported at around 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, and affected an estimated 116 customers, according to Shayna Decker of Maui Electric.

Power was restored to a majority of customers within thirty minutes, with full restoration at 10:17 a.m.

Maui Electric has since restored power to all customers affected by a power outage reported earlier this morning in Kaunakakai on Molokaʻi. The cause of the outage was under investigation at last report.

Maui Electric has restored partial power to all customers affected by an outage on the island of Molokaʻi, except Friendly Market on Alohi Street.

Maui Electric Company has confirmed a power outage on the Island of Molokaʻi affecting parts of the Kamehameha V Highway, Kaunakakai Town, Oki Street, Ailoa Street and laterals. Crews are currently working to identify the cause and restore electrical service as quickly and safely as possible.
