A resurfacing project for Runway 2-20 at the Kahului Airport will be the focus of discussion at an upcoming community meeting.
The meeting, hosted by the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation, Airports Division, is scheduled to run from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday July 11, at the Kaunoa Senior Center in Pāʻia.
State officials say construction will include three inches of pavement resurfacing over the 525,000 square-foot runway.
Work is slated to take place in the overnight hours from midnight to 7 a.m. nightly, Sundays through Thursdays, beginning on Sunday, July 13, 2014.
Airports officials say the meeting will also allow residents to learn more about the project, and to ask questions relating to the improvements.
The project is slated for completion in the fall.
Earlier this week, Governor Neil Abercrombie announced the release of funding for various airport projects across the state.
Maui funding included $6 million for the re-roofing of terminal buildings at the Kahului Airport.
There was also a $1,150,000 appropriation to bring the Hāna Airport into Airfield Compliance; and a $1 million appropriation in design funds for a new aircraft rescue and fire fighting station at the Hāna Airport.
On Lānaʻi, the governor released $10,000 in additional construction funds for airfield lighting on Runway 3 and the terminal apron to meet FAA requirements.
