Fire Destroys Molokaʻi Home

Firefighters battled a house fire in Kaunakakai on Molokaʻi reported at around 5:24 p.m. on Monday July 28, 2014.

Fire officials say that when crews arrived at the home located at 308 Seaside Place, they found the 1400 square foot structure fully engulfed in flames.

Authorities say that during the incident, a seven year old boy sustained a minor injury to his hand and was transported to the Molokai General Hospital for treatment.

According to Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga, the home was totally destroyed, resulting in an estimated $200,000 in damage.

The cause of the fire was undetermined, but deemed accidental, he said.

The American Red Cross was reportedly assisting the three adults and four children that were displaced by the blaze.
