Have a Beer, Help Endangered Monk Seals
By Vanessa Wolf
Yet another charity event that involves large quantities of ice cold liquids… only these you don’t have to dump over your head.
Rather, on Friday, August 29, Maui Brewing Company in Kahana is hosting a fundraiser for the Monk Seal Foundation.
From 6 to 10 p.m. the brewery is donating 50% of the profits from all house beers sold; currently spanning a range of 20 locally made beers on tap.
This is the third fundraising event that Maui Brewing Company has hosted in honor of the critically endangered Hawaiian monk seals.
Promoters note that “the brewery and the foundation both acknowledge and appreciate Hawaii’s state mammal, the monk seal.
The seals have existed in this archipelago for 13 million years, but their population is currently at a critically low 1,100 seals. Now really is the time to save this species from extinction. Found nowhere else in the world, the Hawaiian monk seals’ fate depends on support from the local community.”
The Monk Seal Foundation is a Hawaii-based nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of the critically endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal. The Foundation collaborates with local communities, volunteers, government agencies, nonprofits, and other stakeholders to protect the seals, as well as engage in important public outreach and
education initiatives.
Maui Brewing Company is located at 4405 Honoapiilani Highway in Kahana.
