VIP Cash n’ Carry Name Change and Expansion to West Maui
By Wendy Osher
VIP Cash n’ Carry in Kahului is re-branding itself after 28 years in business to Island Grocery Depot.
Company representatives say the name change reflects the “rich company culture and family values.”
In a company announcement, Owner Nelson Okumura said the retailer will continue to offer the same value, local favorites and a family feel.
The retailer offers both individual and bulk sizes of local specialty products and national-branded grocery items.
The Island Grocery Depot will celebrate the new store name next Saturday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with exclusive savings and prize giveaways.
The celebration will include an Island Grocery Depot Shopping Spree where one person will have 99 seconds to run through the store and grab as many items as they can. Qualifying for the contest begins on Sept. 9 on 99.9 KISS FM. Some individuals will also have a chance to qualify at the event between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The store is located at 90 Amala Place on the way to Kanahā Beach Park.
In addition to the name change, the company also announced the addition of a second location, with plans to expand to West Maui at the Lahaina Industrial Park in the Spring of 2015.
Island Grocery Depot and VIP Foodservice are divisions of parent company Valley Isle Produce, which was founded in 1951.
