Rescheduled ‘Maui Calls’ Event Features Auctions, Top Chefs

Postponed by the weather brought by Iselle and Julio, the rescheduled Maui Calls – the MACC’s annual gala fundraiser event – is now this Saturday, Sept. 27.
Tickets are still available and the theme for this year’s event is “Celebrating the Songs of Hawaiʻi.”
Scheduled highlights include live and silent auctions, a concert with a surprise musical guest and dancing under the pavilion.
At the live auction you can expect lavish offerings like a nine night, multi-city African photo safari valued at $8000 or four nights in a villa in Bora Bora valued at $10,000.
Not to be outdone, the silent auction offers guitars signed by recent MACC performers like Glenn Fry and Melissa Etheridge, front row show tickets, artwork, services and fine wine.
Similarly, the food is top notch. Attendees can anticipate noshing on offerings from acclaimed local restaurants like:

- Salad of Molokaʻi venison pastrami, arugula, Surfing Goat cheese & candied mac nuts with whole grain mustard vinaigrette, mochiko fennel & pickled mango
- Lobster edamame hush puppies, snow pea slaw and yuzu vinaigrette, tandoori aioli

Chef Michael Lofaro is serving:
- Kampachi poke with avocado, mustard oil and smoked ponzu
- Shrimp and hearts of palm dumplings, Hāmākua tomato emulsion, fine herbs, yuzu koshu

- Grilled fish taco with spicy mango salsa
- Lavender honey macadamia nut shrimp

- Cherrywood smoked chicken quesadilla

- Korean shrimp and kimchee pancake with greens and kochuchang sauce
