The Queen Kaʻahumanu Shopping Center in Kahului hosted its first-ever Singing Santa Celebration for deaf youth and education programs on Maui during a morning program at the mall’s Center Stage.

The first-annual event hosted youth from four public school programs including IMUA, Pōmaikaʻi Elementary, Lokelani Intermediate and Maui High School, as well as students from the Hawaiʻi School for the Deaf.

Representatives at QKC say the event featured seasonal stories, songs, and magic, all shared in American Sign Language.

Renowned deaf entertainer Ed Chevy of Oʻahu was the featured performer, along with a visit from Santa, aka “Jeff Morris”, a deaf resident of Maui.

A spokesperson with the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center said the event “was something we felt very passionate about supporting.”
