By Maui Now Staff
“Legal Toolkit,” a seminar about starting up a small business, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, at Maui Economic Development Board’s Malcolm Center.
The event is sponsored by MEDB in partnership with legal experts in the field.
Admission is $20 to hear prominent corporate attorneys for start-up businesses discuss issues such as, business’ most advantageous corporate entity, what to consider when drafting small business legal documents, how to protect a company name and how to reduce tax liabilities.
The “Legal Toolkit” panel includes attorneys with experience and expertise in federal and state tax planning and audits, corporate and securities law, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital financing and business start-ups.
“This seminar’s goal is to help entrepreneurs succeed in Maui’s challenging small business environment,” said MEDB Director of Business Development Gerry Smith. “Our panel of legal experts will show us how to avoid the legal pitfalls that can drain a business person of valuable time and resources, if not threaten the enterprise itself. This is an opportunity not to be missed.”
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the seminar following from 9 to 10:45 a.m.
Two separate, 45-minute, small-group breakout sessions will follow.
Breakout session topics include “Getting the capital you need,” “Tax considerations for small business,” and “Intellectual property for small business.”
“Legal Toolkit” is part of MEDB’s ongoing effort to support entrepreneurs and improve their chances for success and job creation.
