Maui County Surf Forecast, Saturday & Sunday, January 3/4, 2015
North: Surf heights are expected overhead to a couple feet overhead early in the day at the best breaks, especially for spots east of Ho’okipa. As the day goes on, the swell is expected to build to well overhead. On Sunday well overhead to double overhead surf is expected.
West: Spots open to the swells are expected to get waves knee to shoulder high on the sets at the best northerly breaks. The best spots may hit head high later in the day. Smaller surf expected Sunday at ankle to knee high. Otherwise, breaks that don’t catch the swells, and / or are shadowed from them, are forecasted to get smaller surf at ankle high or flat.
South: Ankle to waist high surf is expected early and dropping quickly as the day goes on.
New west-northwest to north-west swell is expected to build on Saturday and peak on Sunday. Overlapping shorter period swell out of the north-northwest and north is also expected over the weekend. Since swells are coming from many different directions it may be haphazard at times.
Pending development, a smaller west-northwest is forecasted by midweek and a larger swell could be generated for the end of the week as well.
Nothing of note out of the SPAC to get excited about.
Keep in mind, surf heights are measured on the face of the wave from trough to crest. Heights vary from beach to beach, and at the same beach, from break to break.
