MPD Search for Kulamalu Longs Robbery Suspect
By Maui Now Staff
The Maui Police Department is looking for a male suspect who jumped over pharmacy counter at Longs Drugs in Kulamalu on Feb. 2 at approximately 8:27 p.m., brandishing a black handgun. He pointed the gun at pharmacists and demanded “oxys” (Oxycodone).
The pharmacist did not resist. The suspect grabbed an undisclosed amount of the opioid and fled on foot in an unknown direction.
Police responded and canvassed the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.
The suspect is described as “a local-looking male,” approximately 5-feet, 5-inches tall and weighing approximately 150 pounds. The suspect was wearing a dark, hooded, long-sleeved sweater with an unknown logo on the upper left chest area, a brown baseball cap, camouflage shorts and a pair of dark athletic-type shoes. He tied a camouflage bandana around his face and wore sun glasses.
“A few Maui doctors have created a large number of prescription narcotic addicts who will become increasingly desperate to get their fix,” said a Maui pharmacist, who requested anonymity. “This puts all of our pharmacy employees at risk. This is a very serious problem on Maui.”
