Matagi Trio to Perform at Hawaiian Music Series Concert

The Matagi Trio will perform at the Lahaina Restoration Foundation’s free monthly Hawaiian Music Series concert on Thursday, March 26, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the the lawn of the Baldwin Home Museum at the corner of Dickenson and Front streets in Lahaina.

Matagi (Samoan for “wind”) is the name of a trio of Maui musicians that includes Marvin Tevaga, Kalani Miles and Kimo Brehm. They have performed a variety of musical genres while sharing vocal harmonies and rhythms for years throughout the island.

“Like the wind is ever-changing, so is our performance as you listen to songs from old, new, Hawaiian, contemporary, country and so on,” said Tevaga.

Tevaga performs regularly as a wedding musician. His love for music began when he was 8 years old, when he picked up the ‘ukulele for the first time. As a Samoan growing up in Hawai‘i with many diverse cultures, he appreciates a variety of musical genres, redefining songs in his own style.

Also Samoan, Miles is an accomplished guitarist who enjoys performing at wedding ceremonies.

Maui native Brehm, bass guitarist, performs at island weddings and baby lū‘au.

Limited seating will be provided for kūpuna. Blankets, mats and low-backed beach chairs are welcome.
