HC&S Lends a Helping Hand to Mālama Maui Nui

HC&S employees selected Mālama Maui Nui as one of the multiple organizations to receive assistance this year.

HC&S employees undertake rejuvenation projects each year during their off-season to benefit the community. Mālama Maui Nui was selected as one of the multiple organizations to receive assistance this year.

Earlier this month, 20 HC&S employees pitched in with a variety of projects, including processing paint left over from MMN’s popular exchange program, sorting household batteries in preparation for recycling and grading a section of MMN’s baseyard to increase work space.

As a volunteer-driven organization, Mālama Maui Nui relies on community support for its initiatives. HC&S’s contribution of individuals, infrastructure and additional resources, such as heavy machinery, allows MMN to continue to help preserve the beauty and environmental health of Maui County.

At the end of the eight-hour day, approximately 800 gallons of paint were processed, four barrels of batteries were ready to be shipped to the Mainland for recycling and the grading was completed. The 160 cumulative hours of work donated on this single day saved the MMN Road Crew staff over a week’s worth of work.

Mālama Maui Nui Executive Director John P. de Jesus extends his deepest thanks and appreciation to HC&S for its support.

“It was a full day of a lot of work and the results were incredible,” he said. “We are truly grateful to HC&S for lending us their tools and manpower to get ahead in two of our most popular recycling programs!”
