Big Brothers Big Sisters of Maui will unveil a mural later this month, created to commemorate the “Be A Jerk” campaign that encourages adults to “be jerks” and not supply youth under the age of 21 with alcohol.
The unveiling event will take place between 10 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 at hale Makana Court, next to Big Brothers Big Sisters at 200 Waimaluhia Lane in Wailuku.
The mural was created by artists Ken Nishimura and Trysen Kaneshige as part of a beautification project to make the BBBS Maui Mentor Center a more welcoming place for youth living in the neighborhood.
The public is invited to attend the unveiling celebration, which includes prizes, pūpū, music, and education about underage drinking.
“We had a lot of fun with the project,” said Courtnety Cabebe, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Maui Match Specialist in an event announcement.
“We picked up trash and empty bottles, got rid of the broken railing on the lānai area, planted new plants, painted and put out a bench, and put out a trash can and recycle bin,” said Cabebe.
