Cause of Waiʻale Brush Fire Under Investigation

Fire officials are investigating the cause of a brush fire reported on Friday afternoon, April 24, on Waiʻale Road in Wailuku.

The fire was reported at around 1:45 p.m. and burned an estimated 50 by 100 foot area of brush before being extinguished at 3 p.m., authorities said.

A fire department water tanker from Kahului arrived at 1:53 p.m. and found that two water tankers and a front loader from Goodfellow Brothers Construction were on scene and had stopped the fire from spreading, said Maui Fire Services Chief Edward Taomoto.

The fire was contained to an area on the mauka side of Waiʻale Road, just south of Kuikahi Drive.

No damages or injuries were reported.

Crews responding to the scene included firefighters from Kahului and Kīhei.
