This Weekend at The MACC: Chaka Khan & ‘A Night at the Opera’

The Maui Arts & Cultural Center has a full weekend of entertainment lined up for Maui audiences.
Chaka Khan kicks off the weekend on Friday, May 8, in the Castle Theater at 7:30 p.m. The singer-songwriter’s career spanns four decades, beginning in the 1970s as the front-person and focal point of the funk band Rufus.
Often dubbed the “Queen of Funk,” Khan has won 10 Grammys and has sold an estimated 70 million records worldwide in the R&B, jazz, funk, soul, disco and contemporary gospel genres:
Fans will remember hits like, “What’s Goin’ On,” “Funk This,” “Summertime” and “I Feel for You.” Tickets are $35, $55, $85 and $125.
A portion of every ticket will be donated to the Pacific Cancer Foundation.
To round out the weekend, Maui Choral Arts present will present “A Night at the Opera” on Saturday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 10, at 3 p.m. in the McCoy Studio Theater.
“A Night at the Opera” will be a fun‐filled concert of favorite choruses under the baton of Artistic Director Gary Shin‐Leavitt with pianist Lotus Dancer.
The concert will also feature the amazing talents of Bob Wills, Jerry Eiting, Lisa Paulson and other guest artists. Audiences will love this mix of familiar selections with a dabble of humor and some urprises.
Tickets are $30 for adults; $15 for 18 under and students with identification.
