No Tsunami Threat to Hawaiʻi After 7.5 Papua New Guinea Quake

There is no tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi following a 7.4 magnitude (preliminary 7.5) earthquake reported at 3:44 p.m. HST on Monday, May 4, 2015, in the New Ireland Region of Papua New Guinea, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The USGS reports that the quake occurred at a depth of 63 km, and was located: 82 miles SSW of Kokopo, Papua New Guinea; 122 miles E of Kimbe, Papua New Guinea; 215 miles SSE of Kavieng, Papua New Guinea; 253 miles W of Arawa, Papua New Guinea; and 422 miles NE of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
