UPDATE: 1 Dead, 1 Critical After Military Aircraft Hard Landing at Bellows

One Marine remains in critical condition, and three others are still hospitalized, but stable following Sunday’s MV-22 hard landing in Hawaiʻi.  The remaining Marines were treated and have since been released.

The next of kin for the one Marine who was killed have been notified. The identity of the Marine will be withheld until 24 hours after that notification was made.

The 15th MEU will continue their sustainment training exercises, which are expected to conclude May 21, before continuing their deployment to the Pacific Command and Central Command areas of responsibility.

The incident remains under investigation, and there has been no halt to MV-22 flight operations at this time.

One Marine was killed when an MV-22 Osprey from the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit experienced a hard-landing while conducting training at Bellows Air Force Station on the Windward side of Oʻahu.

Authorities say the incident occurred at approximately 11:40 a.m., HST.

Twenty-two Marines were aboard at the time, and all other 21 have been transported to local hospitals for assessment and treatment.

The Marines were conducting routine sustainment training at the time.  The 15th MEU departed San Diego May 10 on a seven-month deployment to the Pacific Command and Central Command areas of operation.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.

An MV-22 Osprey military aircraft from the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit experienced a hard-landing mishap at around 11 a.m. HST at Bellows Air Force Station on the Windward side of Oʻahu.

Authorities with the US Marine Crops say that the incident occurred while the unit was conducting training.

Twelve Marines were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Emergency services were on-scene and responding to the incident at last report.
