Landfill insufficient staffing. Maui Now image/Wendy Osher.

The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management, Solid Waste Division, today announced that due to insufficient staffing, the Lānaʻi Landfill will close at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2015.

Also due to insufficient staffing, the Molokaʻi Landfill will close at 1 p.m. today.

County officials say the closures are necessary for the department to ensure safe operations and meet the minimum state Department of Health operating requirements of the county’s solid waste permit.

Officials with the Solid Waste Division apologized for the inconvenience.
