Pono Grown Farm Center in Makawao will present “Planting for Your Future,” a four-part series on designing, planting and maintaining a diverse fruit tree orchard, taught by Evan Ryan one Saturday morning per month beginning Aug. 15 from 9 a.m to 12.30 p.m.

The workshop series will cover everything from layout, species selection, soil building and care, pruning, plant propagation and organic fertilization using production permaculture techniques.

Students will have the opportunity to witness the professional installation of a two-acre food forest.

Ryan has over 15 years of experience working with food-based landscapes in varying parts of Maui.

Preregistration is required. The cost of the series is $245. Register by July 31 for a $50 price reduction ($195). Work-trade scholarships are available.
