Bad Leak at Old Wailuku Pool Forces Closure
By Maui Now Staff
The Maui Department of Parks and Recreation has closed the Old Wailuku Pool due to a bad leak reported on Thursday, July 23, 2015.
Park staff noticed the leak yesterday, and measured a seven inch water loss over a 12 hour period, according to county officials.
It is estimated if the pool continues to lose water at that rate it will be drained empty within seven days, an announcement said.
The Old Wailuku Pool was built in 1930 and authoriteis say repairs to the pool may be “substantial.”
In the meantime, the pool will be closed until further notice.
The New Wailuku Pool is not affected by this closure and will remain open for the public’s use.
