Pickup Overturns in Makawao, Four Teens Transported to Hospital

Four teens were transported to the hospital on Monday night for injuries sustained in a single vehicle crash on Makani Road in Makawao.

The incident was reported at around 10:54 p.m. on Monday, July 27th, 2015 on Makani Road at Pau Hana Road in Makawao.

According to police reports, the collision occurred as a Toyota Tundra pickup truck, traveling north on Makani Road, lost control around a turn and overturned on the roadway, ejecting two of its rear seat passengers.

The 18-year old male operator, along with a 16-year-old female seated in the rear seat sustained non-life threatening injuries. A 17-year-old female seated in the rear seat was ejected and sustained non-life threatening injuries.  A 16-year-old female, seated in the rear seat of the pickup truck, was also ejected and suffered critical life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The four injured individuals were transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment.

An 18-year-old man, who was seated in the front passenger seat was uninjured in the collision.

Police say the involvement of speed, drugs, and alcohol are still pending as the investigation is ongoing.
