By Maui Now Staff
Maui firefighters battled two small brush fires along Baldwin Avenue in Pāʻia early Friday morning.
Crews were called to the scene at 2:40 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, 2015 and found two separate fires burning within a sugar cane field, just mauka of the Pāʻia Gym, on the Kahului side of Baldwin Avenue.
The fire was brought under control by 2:57 a.m. by Pāʻia firefighters and a Kahului water tanker crew, said Maui Fire Services Officer Edward Taomoto.
About 200 yards separated the two fires, with each fire burning around 2,000 square feet, according to department reports.
Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company was notified, since no cane burning was scheduled in the area.
Authorities say the cause of the fire was undetermined.
There were no structures threatened and no injuries were reported.
